It better be worth it.

My girlfriend and I play together. I dunno, I've known a lot of girls who play. I never thought it was even an issue. I'm currently running a campaign with four guys and two girls, including my girlfriend, and two of the guys are gay. Everybody's character ideas are just as unique and useful as everyone else's. Why is this a thing?

I've been playing D&D for over a decade, and DMing for most of it. There have almost always been women at the table, myself included. I have gotten flack for it (oddly enough from my high school boyfriend, who yelled at me, and told me "D&D is guys night! You aren't coming!" I was playing with his group, and had been for a couple of months). But, barring stupid high school boyfriend, I've been accepted as a player/DM.

I am the best DM in my area. I am payed to run games. I am a girl. :/

Okay, I was in high school playing D&D 20+ years ago. Girls not only never played. They wouldn't do anything remotely geeky. Kids today are so lucky to not have the geek stigma like we did. I'm sure our glasses and bad hair didn't help us, but now geek culture is a lot more fun.

We don't exactly have a "no girls" rule, but a rule that any girls in attendance better be there to play. Nothing annoys me more than a girl who doesn't understand the game, and insists on distracting her boyfriend during important battles. We only get to play once a week, so NO you can't bring your girlfriend, and NO we aren't teaching her how to play in the middle of a campaign. Girls who do play, and understand the game are allowed, and even encouraged, because they tend to role play well.

I haven't ever heard of a 'No Girls' rule. Generally I see more guys that admit they play than women, but a bunch of my female friends are willing to try it out at the very least. I was a part of a campaign a couple of years ago where the guys were actually outnumbered, it was i believe 4 girls to 2 guys. So I think it just depends on the area and what people are willing to admit to doing on the weekends. :3

Just to toss in my own 2 cp, I'm playing in two games, one with 2 guys and 1 gal (male DM), and one with 6 guys and 4 gals (male DM). I'm also DMing one game (2 gals, 2 guys) and am trying to get a fourth off the ground (4 gals, no guys). In groups where misogyny has been cut down among geeks, girls seem just as interested in DnD as boys.

Out of all my friends who game I'd say 1 in 4 of them are ladies. Some of the women who I know who game but, I've never actually played with have several women in their group, one even plays in an all woman group. I think its just a sexist misconception.

The ‘No Girls’ Rule
I’m really curious about this, because I’ve never been in a situation where this was well… Remotely true. I’m a 18 year old girl, I’ve been GM’ing Pathfinder for the last 2 years and playing for about 4 (a variety of systems, but Pathfinder got the most consistent playtime) and I know just as many girls as guys who play D&D. To put this in perspective, my best friends for like 3+ years have been guys 4-8 years older than me. Almost every female friend I have and remain close to play D&D, that being why I have spent enough time with them to become friends. I also am friends with way more guys than girls. And yet when I made a list of people I know who play D&D regularly I came to have two lists, one of 14 girls and one of… 15 guys. The peach? Currently 5 of those women (including me) are gm’ing and… 2 of the men are. Is this just a weird microcosm of Victoria, B.C. (Where I’m from)? Because mnost of my D&D friends also know lots of women who play, even those with radically different social groups or more traditionally ‘feminin’ or ‘girly’ women friends. I will admit that I’m a nerdy girl (I’m wearing batman footie pj’s at the moment) but I still wear make up and dresses, I am active (rugby), moderately pretty and have a wonderful boyfriend. What gives man? Cultural misconception or is Victoria B.C. the holy grail of D&D playing women? (I specify because I am still considered weird by many of my female friends for playing Magic:The Gathering, though not as much since I became less active and a few of my other female friends started playing).
Sorry for long post, I was initially going to make a bunch of ‘girl gamer’ memes but the generator wouldn’t load properly so I settled for this instead.—-
MOD: In the game that I am currently playing, we have a pretty even split of four girls and four guys.
In the game that I am DMing we have again, another even split of three girls and three guys.
I hope that helps D8
I to am a girl btw.
